Default Dave D's ("Nick Danger") Cub Cadet Project

I recently purchased a CC 1650, but there is some question about what model it actually is. Feature-wise, it looks more like a 1250, but the previous owner said it was a 1650 refurbished by his Dad, and a previous would-be buyer confirmed that it is a 1650 by serial number. The S/N from the chassis is 591462 (2050630U591462). For my purposes, any of the 1250 - 1650 will do what I need, but, of course, I'd prefer the 1650. I have not transported it from the seller yet. I could not find the Kohler rating sticker - only a small sticker under the air filter that indicates the S/N is Y442725, which doesn't jibe with anything I have found regarding the Kohlers. Mechanically it is in pretty good shape, but it is missing a few odds and ends such as the hour meter.

when you get it, take the head off and measure the diameter of the bore. off the top of my head, i can't remember the dimensions but you can check in manual or one of our other more experienced memebers will chime in and give more info. also, there should be a tag on or about the shroud that should have the spec. # and serial #. i hope this helps a little. and congrats on the new cub, regardless of size!!!!! and just to be the first one to say this....... jeff

I will look at the head first thing, to see if it's a 9-bolt or a 10-bolt. If it's a 9-bolt, I'll pull it and measure the bore. It appears that it was properly prepared for sitting idle - fuel drained, oil changed, etc. . I was able to get it started with a battery charge and some fuel, and it runs fine. That surprised me. Hydro works, seems to amble about without trouble. Mower deck is in reasonably good shape - everything is free and pretty clean (except, as usual, for the underside). I hope to haul it up here next week ... and ... photos will be coming as soon as I have it up here. I ran out of time today - spent most of my time trying to find a trailer to haul it from Parker, CO to Lyons, CO, without success.

Thanks!
Dave

The serial number indicates it is a 1250 made in 1976.

Nice. Thank you kindly.

Where did you get the doc showing the serial number/model correlation? I was not able to find that on the web.

Cheers
Dave

Default 1250 Parts - General Guidelines

Thanks.

Can anyone give me some clues as to where to go to get parts? I see a lot of web sites which carry some parts, and i see parts on eBay, some reasonably priced, some not. Are there any guidelines, or is it just a matter of poring through the online stuff and finding the lowest prices? There are a lot of minor parts that I will need to install or replace on my 1250.

Thanks
Dave

Our sponsors located at the top of the page are a great source for parts along with your local Cub dealer. You can also place an add in the Wanted section for items you are looking for. It is possible some members here have some for sale.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
