Hope I'm not hijacking this. Mine is starting to give me lots of trouble again. I may just pull the motor out and take all the ducting out and give everything a good cleaning. Dwayne do you recall if this starter was able to be taken apart for a cleaning? I was thinking some of them you can't do much to.

Oh by the way, the idea of several long socket extensions works like a dream on the bottom starter bolt. I had the starter off in about 5 minutes of work. Obviously with the deck and subframe removed from the tractor. I used two 6 inch, 3/8 extensions and 3 inch extension and deepwell socket. Ran them up thru the bottom of the tractor just in front of the lowered lift arm. There was enough of a slot in the lower debris screen to slide the extension up and forward to remove the bottom retaining nut.
Not great pictures but gives an idea of what is involved. ![]() ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
