OK dumb question...
Is it possible to get the smell of 40 year old Hy-Tran out of rubber?
Here's the story.... when I went to change the fluid in the 127 some (about a gallon) of hy-tran spilled on the garage floor.... Well, I had my good NB 992 on (USA made) and apparently some of the hy-tran soaked into the sole or something. Now they reek of old hy-tran. Not that I mind it that much, but apparently my wife doesn't like the smell as much as me. Oh ya, I've washed them a couple times too.

I have found that when I mow the dog kennel, the stuff in there will petty much take any smell you had on tires and completely replace it. Not saying it's any better, LOL.

wash your shoes with a can of coke in the water. that should do it. When in the military I had to wash my overalls and that is what I used. We had to work on some nasty stinky stuff.
It will also take the smell of human decomp out of you skin as well.
