Default Shifter.... 1200

Ok, got everything worked out with the clutch. But noticed shifter was not right at all, would spin and not rock... Pulled the top off the trany and found that this has been welded down in there, and the guide is waisted. But then again I really don't know what it should look like. Here is a pic of it as best as I could get down inside. Can I get some input on what I am seeing? To me it looks as though someone welded on this in the past, though could be the way it looks from factory. The guide that the roll pin goes into is completely worn out.

It's pretty common for these transmissions to break the cup that guides the shifter. The repair is to weld the cup back on. It looks like yours was sort of welded.

Go to the tech library: http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=19
and look for the three threads in a row about shifter repair.
You should find what you are looking for.
I think I saw one vendor who had just the cup, which you could probably use to fix yours, if you know someone who can weld better than the previous chap who worked on your machine.

Hmm haven't seen that one yet, Thank you for the quick reply. Will look into the fix. Have a kid at work that is way better then me at welding. May have him take a crack at it.

Yeah, maybe you better be finding out what kind of beer that kid at work likes. I'd think it would be worth somewhere between a 12 pack and a case to get the job done.

It might be good to print the directions out for him.

Lmao, yea looking in it is all cracked out on the inner cup. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. It could cost me nothing, but will let him do it and drink a couple with him once done... lol I am the boss though, so could just have him do goverment work on it, but won't.

That price was for a gear shifter for a 70 or 100. A 1200 gear shifter will cost more.

It is an easy fix. You need to be carefull when you weld the cup back on. It is easy to warp the cup. I used a stick welder when I repaired that shifter.

We have migs and tigs at the shop, I'm fluent with the mig, but blow holes with the tig... Why is the tig refered to as the gentlemans welder... Guess I'm a bit gruff for it.

Yesterday had pulled the shifter, droped a bolt into the trany... Good thing though, forced me to drain it, oil was nasty down in there. Definately some water in there. So new oil, still broken shifter, but i wanna go out and play with it so back together it goes.

It's a gear drive. You need 7 pints of HyTran. Don't make the mistake I did and order 2 gallons, thinking it was 7 quarts. Oh well, I got enough for next time.

I found HyTran at Coleman Equipment in Bonner Springs, KS for $15+ a gallon, total was about $20 a gallon shipped. ($40.02 for 2 gallons shipped). I'm sure you can find better deals elsewhere, but that's what I went with. It should give you a starting point, or reference.
