Question K241 Rebuild

I have been looking at rebuilding a spare K241 with a knock, for several years. It is my favorite engine for my ground engaging equipment. Over the past week or so I have it mostly dissembled. Still working on the flywheel and PTO pulley (waiting on puller from “parts by Jeff”). With the head off I noticed that the piston is one place where there is “knock”. It moves back a forth a lot in the cylinder.

I have contacted a machine shop that is very far behind and would only bore the block and grind and crankshaft if it were taken apart.
My question for the moment is what to do with the main bearings? The manual says they are most always ok.

My second question is what rebuild kit to buy. Does anyone have a favorite vendor?
