Big stuff like the frame, dash tower hood and such will be done with my sand blaster. The fuel tank I used the bench grinder with a wire brush, then the DA. Bolts I use the bench grinder wire wheel to get most of the crud off, then soak them for a day or so in a solution of Simple Green with some lacquer fluid mixed in.
The Green cleans off the oil and grease, while the lacquer loosens up the paint. Then I wire wheel again, but with a medium wheel. Like on the housing, I clean the grease and crud with the Green, then I'll use a hand held wire wheel on a drill and a DA, where I can. I don't strip the paint where it's good, just feather it into the bare metal spots.
