For quite a few years I had a lift rod for my snowplow that was about 6" too short. I used a piece of light chain to extend it. Worked OK but it allowed the plow to float.

Last year I decided to do away with the chain and added a length of threaded rod to my short rod, along with a pair of couplings and lock nuts. Now I finally have a one piece rod. Works OK and now I can do a little light grading on dirt with the plow too.
