The drive cup came off with the puller. Fairly easy procedure. However the cup was not centered on the crankshaft, and while it was wobbling on the shaft the soft aluminum shaft hole was hammered into the threads on the crankshaft and left thread impressions in the hole of the cup. It looked like the cup may never have been centered on the shaft, and if it wasn’t it would explain a lot. The cup will not install past the first few threads on the crankshaft, so I found a fair price for a NOS cup and grass screen, and am waiting for that. Onward.
