Hobart and Miller are NOW the same units with different color paint.
I picked up my Hobart Handler 187 ( 220VAC single phase - like your dryer plug) for $200 off CL. Just serviced ( with receipt ) with wire and a regulator. It works great thru out the entire heat range. All replacement parts are Miller.
As written earlier, take a Vo Tech class to learn how to weld. Just because your neighbor says he can weld ( melt metal ) doesn't mean he learned the correct way ( certified welders exempt from that comment )
