Default Gear Shift Repair - Part 3

Repairing The Shifter Part 3

Shifter is now ready to be reassemble. Install shifter lever into shifter housing making sure pin in shifter housing is in slot that is in the shifter cup as shown in the above picture. Place shifter housing in vise with bottom side facing up. Place gear shift guide as soon in the picture. The guide will only go one way.



Use a hammer and gently tap the gear shift guide into place. Tap on both sides of the gearshift guide.



Gear Shift guide will be seated when the tab on the gear shift guide is seated against the gear shift housing.



Turn shifter right side up and place shifter in vise as shown lightly clamping on the ball of the shifter.



Install the following parts in this order: Gear Shift Cover, Retainer, Spring, Retainer. Compress the spring enough to be able to reinstall the swivel spring retainer pin. Use a vise grips to keep the spring compress as shown.



Install swivel spring retainer pin centering on gear shift lever.Release vise grips and allow the pin to fit inside the retainer as shown.



Shifter should move freely in every gear. If it does not move freely, you will need to take shifter apart to find out why shifter is in a bind. Shifter is ready to install on your Cub Cadet. Replace the shifter cover gasket. Part number for gasket is IH-351546-R1.Place the shifter in all gears making sure everything is in working order.

Transmission is ready to install in Your Cub Cadet.

You can purchase a new Gear Shift Lever from Cub Cadet. Cost for a new gear shift lever is $132.00+
