The first thing I would do is check your ground connections, followed by the connections to the starter/generator itself. A bad ground or bad ground wire will cause all sorts of issues.

As far as engine parts, I have bought a lot of stuff from Tulsa Engine Warehouse (http://tewarehouse.com/Catalog/055) They have both aftermarket and discount-priced OEM parts.
