Matt,
If you think of it as "righty tighty/ lefty loosey... then yes, it would make sense that turning the adjustment clockwise will move the pulley downward tightening the belt. This is why we bought Cubs because their engineers put enough thought into this design.
It may be a bit aggrevating adjusting ones mind set to think "lefty tighty" but the physical laws of simple machines remain constant.

Could I make one with LH threads? Yes. But the cost of tooling for a one-off piece would be not cost effective. The purist will surely shun me for this. LOL

BTW: I like your split brake design. Mind if I steal it?
