Derek If your fuse was blown, or the switch not making a connection, or the wire to the coil open your amp gauge would not move.

If your wire to the coil was shorted the amp gauge would probably peg momentary and then the fuse would blow.

Since your amp gauge is moving when you flip the switch the coil is probably good and the air gap is off.

If you make the air gap adjustment and it still doesn't work then you need to dig deeper and probably start by checking the resistance of the coil.
