I haven't really dug into it, but I believe my 1200 axle tubes are aluminum. That is my opinion based on paint chipped off near bolts, showing base metal. Its not Cast Iron, unless there is a trick base coating under the paint. My tractor has never never never been restored or modified before I got it. Also, I remember this question earlier this year coming up. I made a comment about putting my 100% cast iron rear from my prior 104 with higher 2nd gear in my 1200. That will likely be a project for next spring when Im dying to turn bolts.
