Just spitballing a few things that come to mind.
Both good ideas, thanks. The belt is tight, but without knowing the actual spec I don't know if it is too tight or not tight enough. Idler pulley spring has tension on it. Should these be as tight as the fan belt on a car?

I'm gong to move the pin that holds the idle pulley spring to the other hole which will make the belt tighter.

Edit: I forgot to answer the second part of your message. There are two idle pulleys. One is fixed, one is on a lever with a spring. The belt is pretty tight. I double checked the belt length. Parts manual says it should be 134". I measured it at 134" to confirm I got the right one.
