I am currently doing the same procedure to my K301. I am only having three things done at the machine shop. Bore cylinder .010 over = $40, includes hot tanking the block. Turn crank pin .010 under = $40. Clean the head = $10.
Everything else I am doing or purchasing myself. I figure my total including all needed components will be around the $400 +/- . So you may not be too bad off. Considering a new short block is double or more than that price, it is worth it. Good luck on the rebuild. Keep us posted.
