Aha! I found my issue. The starter I put on there was correct, and so was the ammeter. It was wired correctly by color code according to the wiring diagram but yet someone had painted over the wires with the wrong color going to the ammeter and I didn’t pick up on it. (So it was not wired correctly) I removed the paint from the wires and they still had the right color underneath. Also, the field terminal plastic resistor that holds the bolt in place from inside the generator was put on backwards and was grounded on the starter. With that being said, It charges now but doesn’t charge constantly. It feels like it’s cycling on and off at high RPM like an A/C compressor would do, and the ammeter that was on there originally was so worn out it bounced all over the place. So I don’t have a definite answer if it did that before I put a new starter gen on it. It’s charging at least, so I’m not complaining too much.
