One other thing, pull the governor gear and cross-shaft out while you're at it. The cross-shaft has a metal tab that is pop riveted on and they tend to break off at this age. Mine fell apart in my hands when I pulled it out. Looks like the replacements available are now welded.

Regardless, I looked up the 2 camshaft part numbers and there doesn't seem to be any difference between the 2... perhaps Kohler changed the part number for the camshaft somewhere in the production run?
