At least it didn't destroy anything else and good to hear you were smart enough to grab a glove to pick it up.
I used to race go karts and after the races, one of the guys just built a engine ( 5 hp Briggs stock class) and wanted one of the "hot shoes" to check it out. Doug got a couple laps in and the engine threw a rod out the block directly in front of the builder. ( he didn't put oil in it)
It's laying in the grass , smoking like mad and he picked it up with his bare hand. He yelled and dropped it quickly. I asked him if he did anything stupid lately
