Hi all. The engine is back together and seems to be running great. The kit instructions say that "if the engine has flat washers and/or push rod guide plates under the rocker pivots, discard them..." Mine had both. I wonder if this is the style A that R Bedell found a reference to and, due to changes, required the whole valvetrain kit.

My guess is the washers and guides were determined to be unnecessary or detrimental so the valvetrain was redesigned without them. This changed the geometry of the valvetrain causing the need for slightly shorter push rods. And/or maybe the rocker arms changed.

Anyway, at about $30 for the kit it was not to bad of a cost.
