The forums you saw were likely talking about delco remy generators only. If the unit is used for starting and generator there is no need to polarize. It does it on its own as soon as you crank it. So if you ever work on a delco remy that is just a generator or will not use the crank function then yes. You need to polarize it. The process is extremely simple tho.
