No, you do not have to take the key out first. Clean up the shaft with some emry cloth, and a wire brush. You do have to loosen up or remove the set screws first... I remove them and spray Kroil in the holes. May need some heat on the center of the pulley. You need the puller from Jeff.

Why do you need to take it off? Paint?
IMPACT GUN. Go get one.

Oh, you can probably run a die down it and fix it. But you need to put a nut on while pulling the wheel until it comes loose. You are going to have to do something before you pull the wheel though because you swelled the end of the shaft now.

I tried heat on the center of the pulley, maybe not long enough though... I'll try again and do you happen to have a picture of the puller? I was using a matco 6 inch hub puller I borrowed from my dad.

I did get the wheel off. The shaft isnt so expanded that it wouldn't come off, but expanded enough to not thread the top nut on.

I need to take a picture of my starter... I'm not convinced it's the right model because of the way its attached to the mount. Looks like the guy used washers as spacers to make it for correctly. I'll take a pic tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the help again. I have the steering system completely out of the tractor... I noticed some odd things but I'll get pics before trying to discuss/ask.
