All that said, if the glass works that well then there would be no need to spend an hour setting up the head to mill it... I was thinking using the laser as a poor mans transit.. then again setup time would be blah... I tend to over think things sometimes I reckon looking for a better way to skin the hog.

I like to use a fly cutter big enough to do the whole head, then there are no problems with mill overlaps, end of story.
But a piece of emery on a surface plate works just as well, or glass for those that don't have a plate.
