Roland I have been searching for this answers as well. Thanks for the picture and clarification.

Now my question is: What if the fork bracket isn't quite long enough to engage the foot rest rod? Could the carriage be the wrong model?

I,m working with a 149 as well. The mule drive is a 62 383 C91 per CPE-2B. The mower deck will be a 482U1113. I bought everything from Todd (Zippy) and we noticed the issue at that time. However, we didn't go into serious details and we checked three other carriages that he had and they all would have the same issue. I/we thought that once the deck and everything was mounted, things would come together. In researching I saw that the fork bracket on some carriages had perpendicular brackets welded on them in what looked like an extension to make them a bit longer. I also noticed those welded brackets in the operator's manual as well as the service manual.

I haven't tried to mount the deck on yet until I figure this problem out.
