You might try checking the steering wheel to see if it is bent first. You can use a 2x4 to straighten it in small increments at a time, with small adjustments made to each 1/3, then turn the wheel and repeat. You may also want to check the tower adjustment. Try loosening the bolts on the tower and it should give just a little.....slide it back if you are able.
