Mine has a Magnum 20 (M20), I think 99% of them were so equipped. I think I read here once where the very first 2072's still had Onan's like their 982 predecessor--there were just a few of these though. I could be completely wrong on that, but seem to remember it being a bit of a revelation on here.
I don't think there was much/any difference between a 1872 and a 2072 other than the engine--just 2 more HP. I think the engines are the same, one is just bored or stroked a bit more. To be honest, I've never had to fool around with many of those, just some minor work on the M20 in my 2072 and a "top end" rebuild on the M18 in my 1811. There are a few guys here that are very knowledgeable on those engines, don't know how well they pay attention to this category though. I don't know for sure, but I think it is pretty simple to drop a M18 in the place of a M20---don't take my word though, find someone that has!
Some regard the cyclops (2284 in your case) as the last of the best Cadets. A little more HP and a finally more modernized driveline, adjustable seat and steering.
