OK, I'm pretty sure the coil is crapping out. I took the spark tester off our Allen test machine for magnetos and checked each wire. The wire going to what showed to be the weaker cylinder yesterday barely would create a spark. The other side was about 4-5 times stronger. Tried switching the wires by using an extra wire to see if the "short wire" (right side) would mimick causing the engine to die when it was pulled. Well today it didn't, even when hooked up properly. Even though the short wire was much stronger, the spark was still rather "weak" looking. It failed around 6mm (just under 1/4"), that's the threshold minimum for a magneto before you tear into one of them. I've had several late model magnetos go 11mm (aprox 7/16) before failing. So, prices on coils start at $50 and got to $200. Saw a genuine Kohler for $100. What do you guys recommend, no-name or genuine?

Attached a pic of the spark tester, it will do up to 12 cylinders--checks from
1mm up to around 15. I have NO idea why its metric given its age.
