The front coupler on the 149 leaves a lot to be desired, but the bigger problem is with the 982 driveshaft; the (really expensive) coupler at the rear wears out and starts wobbling and causing vibration problems and can wreck the pump input shaft. This won't happen with the CV joints. I've got most of a CV joint driveshaft that I'd like to put on my 782D, but I would have to find a few missing parts that are too expensive to buy new.

The 1860 pump should be essentially the same as all of the older ones, but it has a splined input shaft. If the pump in the 149 is that strong, you may as well leave it be. If you aren't planning on keeping the 982, I'd save the driveshaft stuff for the 1872 you want.
