Thanks. that diagram is exact what i looked at, i was unable to really access the shifter rod and lower washers/sleeve. I flooded it with diesel fuel several times thinking it would get in somewhere, tilted machine on side as well flooding it. the machine was outside over winter & water must have got in somewhere. I thought maybe it had detent balls to hold shift lever in position. let me see how i make out up there. maybe oil worked its way in, i doubt it, but i may get lucky. I just got the machine 1 year ago there, it would only go in reverse. I paid $175 & engine is fine. just a stuck plunger, and trans oil was nasty & waxy. It may never have been changed.
