Talking Greetings! Inherited a CC 1450!

Well folks, I just acquired a late 70s CC1450 from my parents- the original owners. Long story short, it’s been stored inside a garage and used to mow a ~2 acre yard with the 44A mower deck. I used to mow with it when I was a teenager. The last 15 years or so, it was not used at all as my parents decided to hire a lawn service. They had a snow blade but it was never used (it does snow here in the mid-atlantic!). There isn’t any rust on the unit and I actually got it running yesterday with a new battery and fresh gas. No smoke and no leaks. I’ve been doing as much research as I can. I’ve been trolling this forum as I awaited my account to be activated, downloaded the owner’s and service manual.

Little background on me- I’m now in my mid 30s, live on ¼ acre- was going to sell the 1450 but now I’m considering keeping it as it takes me over 2 hours to mow my yard with a self-propelled push mower. I thought it would be overkill on a 100x100 ft yard, but if I can mow my yard in 10 minutes rather than 2 hours, I’m game . I’d clear out my shed and store it in there. I love working on mechanical devices- I’m currently in the middle of rebuilding the LS1 in my 98 Corvette, which I yanked the motor and transmission/diff out on my own to have it honed and am also rebuilding the transmission and diff- so I’m very familiar with cars and motorcycles and have the tools, but never tractors. I interrupted that project to work on the 1450 to clear out space in the garage for my car project.

So far, besides changing the battery I’ve also washed and cleaned the tractor, oil, air filter, plug, got the tail lights working (the manual says #67 but I found they are actually #57!) and have new blades on order.

Later on- the trans fluid and filter, tires (they might be original!), engine mounts and maybe the cross member mod and steering rebuild I’m reading about. I’ll ask more about these and other topics in separate threads but I wanted to introduce myself to the community first.

Here's a pic of it BEFORE I washed it.
