Try without the belt and see if that helps. The belt can be tight and if you aren't sure you're doing it right, might be hindering you. As mentioned it is really easy. Of course not seeing it on first doesn't help lol

Also, the pins on the clamp slide into the outside of the deck. They don't straddle anything. If that makes sense. You just pull the pin out and lift up, then let them slide back out into the deck mount.
