I am very local to Cassius Clay. Where he was born. Where he started to fight and where he became famous.
He was a terrific fighter. Good entertainment! I watched every one of his early fights. Then, he applied for concientious objector status and got it under the same guide lines as everyone else that was granted the same status.
I didn't see it that way at the time. I thought he was just ducking military duty and I was very disappointed in him.
Reflecting on his life since that time, his actions have shown that his feelings about the military were honorable and sincere. No need for me to enumerate these things. It's all over the news.
