Have had this 86 tucked away for a while. It had a leak near the back of the engine, clutch side. Picked up a rear crank seal and proceeded to replace that yesterday during the drizzle. Also for some reason the key and set screw for the PTO was missing and the PTO was spinning on the crank?
The original rear seal did not look that bad, but I pulled it out since I had a new one. But while I was in there, I checked the 4 - 1/4 inch bolts holding the aluminum plate to the block. And they were pretty loose. Maybe this was where the oil was coming from? Buttoned it up and took it for a spin. Backed it in to park and one of the three bolts in the PTO pack just fell out. So back in the shop pulled the grill and hood again and took the PTO off again. Lock-tighted the nuts and reassembled again. Engine runs good with no smoke. Nice to have another Cub ready for some work. Should get one of those $84 dollar seats I saw on here.
Regards,
Chris
