Thanks, I may have to try it this way. I have a good welder but my skills are still developing.

And I was worrying about damaging the threads by cutting it with a hacksaw blade. .. Hammer and chisel.... I can handle that.

Next.. is this a regular pipe thread? Can I just get a piece of black pipe from the hardware store to replace it with, or is it a special piece.
