did the engine ever throw a rod? if it did you have to look the starter side of the block over real close and at the bottom of the cyl where they break a chunk out. sometimes a crack extends out of that area up to the into the cyl.
the only other spots I've seen them crack is on the head gasket area towards the PTO end of the crank. they like to blow the head gasket in that area and for some reason the 14 block cracks there pretty easy. I've also seen the 14 block crack at the cylinder the 3rd cooling fin down. You can usually see the cracks so just look it over close
