Well, I did it (bought a 1450)
As the title says, I bought a 1450 this past weekend (need to get vin for year). Some of you may have seen my post in the IH forum asking some basic questions on this purchase.
After months of trying to find good times to work on getting it started, and 1 failed attempt, we (seller and I) decided to close the deal on it as is. So, we pulled it out of the barn, put air in the tires, and gave it a once over. I bought it for a good price then hauled it home.
So far, I replaced that battery with one I had, cleaned the points to get spark, shot some carb cleaner down the carb and adjusted it, and hosed it off. It runs and moves well so far! It really is in great shape mechanically, and pretty decent cosmetically. My new house needs the lawn rolled pretty badly, so I will do that tonight to get some seat time.
My next step is to start tuning it up, change the fluids (though it was recently serviced and looks good), and fabricate a ball hitch to haul my utility trailers around. Also patch the rust holes in the deck and get that into service. Then get some new front tires.
Long term I want to repaint it, and get all the parts for a sleeve or 3 point hitch. I'll pick up some odds and ends for it as I go. I wouldn't mind a plow blade just for fun and to suppliment my snowblower on light snow days.
Oh ya, and the kids (3 and 6) absolutely love it! They can sit on my lap and drive itvery well. I have to admit I love it so far too. I am hooked!
