I have an Agri-fab. No issues. I think it all amounts up to knowing how to run a piece of equipment. If you run the brushes in the dirt (too low) I could see it stripping gears. FWIW, Agri-Fab, and Brinly both make an "industrial" or "contractor grade" sweeper. Costs quite a bit more, but look really tough. Agri-Fab has a really cool one that you can offset the hitch on.
