Cub 108 Brake Caliper Assembly
Cub Enthusiasts:
I have a Cub 108 and am replacing the brake pads. The Cub 108 serial number that I have is
2050043U 479325. There seems to be three different types of brake caliper assemblies for the 108. When I look at the brake diagrams the brake caliper assembly that is on my 108 matches the Ausco, clamshell type.
When I took the brakes apart there were no springs or spacers within the brake calipers.
The diagram also shows no springs or spacers within the brake pad cartridge. I noticed that the other brake assemblies show a “spacer and spring”.
When I tighten the bolts on clamshell caliper assembly, the pads are forced onto the brake disk so that it cannot spin freely.
I cut four, ½” springs that fit around the bolts and I left the bolts slightly loose. This seems to work and the foot brake, brake lever can pivot and apply pressure to the pads. However, the clamshell brake assembly is not tight in that it can be moved back and forth by hand.
Is this the way that the brake assembly should work on this type of brake caliper assembly?
