Default 1250 starter question

Hello all,
I tried to start my 1250 this afternoon and the starter turned over slow then super fast, a quick look under the hood determined that the starter gear had stuck and the retaining nut on the end of the shaft had spun off. after removing the starter and grass screen I was able to retrieve the return spring and cup washer from the bottom of the fly wheel housing, no luck on the top washer or nut, so my question is: would there be any way that the washer and nut could get behind the flywheel and stick to the magnet? I don't want to remove the engine and pull the flywheel IF I don't have to. I have a 1330 that I can mow with in a pinch but it just doesn't get the job done like the 1250. Any advice or help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
