Dr Mac: Rule of thumb: Belts do not just jump off by themselves!! Worn/misaligned pulleys can throw them off as can limbs/pine burrs, etc., as well as improper belt tension.

1) As Grey531 stated: Check those pulleys for damage, wear and alignment and the tension adjustment on the mule drive.

2) Once a belt has been thrown, remove it and check the outer edges for nicks, gashes, and/or cuts...If a belt shows any damage like that, you might as well as go get a new one, because they will continue to jump off, no matter the condition or adjustment of the pulleys or tension. Sharp edges on a pulley will sometimes damage the belt as it is thrown (for whatever reason, as stated above). Did I mention removing the belt and thoroughly checking the outer edges?? If the outer edges are intact, then I re-install the belts and usually they function well.

PS, FYI: Gates "Green Stripe" belts are for L&G use and are Ok for your mower. Not so with Gates Automotive belts...
