Default It wont start - barely rolls over

Hi everyone,
My first post, i will give a short history behind my cub cadets, but more importantly the issue at hand. I have a 1650, 1450 and 129. Plus two Farmall Cubs.

Over the winter my 1650 which is use for most tasks, including blowing snow and tilling the garden, wouldn't start. I used it one day and went out and i couldn't roll it over the next. When the engine comes up on the compression stroke it gets to about TDC and stops. I figured it was a bad battery since the Wisconsin winter was extra cold. Got a new battery, same issue. Wondered if the starter was bad. Swapped the 1450 starter with the 1650. Still can't get it going. So i called my grandpa who's the true cub cadet nut in our family. He's got around 5-8 cub cadets currently.. (we think.) lol.. He "Loans" them to friends and neighbors..

Well he figured my issue was the compression release spring on the cam. On Saturday, i pulled the motor and dropped the oil pan, and found an Intact Compression Release Spring.. So now i'm stumped. Anyone have any suggestions what could be the issue? Side note.. After pulling the motor, i did notice the electric clutch is tight, it can be turned by hand but it has some resistance. The 1450 springs freely compared to this one. Could this be part of my issue? Thanks again.
