Don't sweat the hydo., In typical cub fashion of that era they are way overbuilt. There are a few quirks in the controls that come up from time to time, but actual Hydro problems are few and far between.
I would say if it starts, runs and moves for the most part you are good to go. Remember that you are looking at a 40 yr.old machine, expect to have to do some work to make it 100%.
