I would go ahead and do both rod and piston. For what little the kits cost with and without the new rod its good insurence to just replace it I have used the ebay kits for 3 engines now and the k301 on my 124 has about 100 hours on it and I dog it hard with a 48 inch deck and tall grass. And she still just grunts and comes to life. I have noticed a little puff of smoke every now and then but its also over due for a oil change.
