As far as keeping them clean. With my tool box, jack's, and jack stands...once spotless clean, I spray them down with a liquid wax....then let dry in the sun.
Do it once, sometime twice a year. No degreasing necessary. Stuff comes clean with alittle water...sometimes mild soap, and they will stay looking like new.
I haven't tried it with tractors, because I haven't repainted any yet, so I can't see waxing something as nasty as they are. It does work great on nice paint.
And, to remove it, just give it a degreasing.
And, if anyone decides to try this, don't continuously recoat with wax. As with a car, wax buildup will dry, and yellow the color....it is only a protectant with a certain lifespan. Iwould never let it stay on something for mare than a year.
