Because I tried a new ignition module (aka mag) i took off the old one but realized after the fact that this was not the issue. Old one worked just fine. I set the gap best I could but wonder if it is correct. In the kohler service manual located here:

i don't see anything on page 36 where it talks about the module about what the gap should be. It seems like since that system is constantly firing an electromagnetic current if not just right that it could cause the engine to start briefly (so far only with starter fluid) and then stop running after 2-3 seconds. This assuming that the carb is clean since is did my best to clean it.
Let me ask you this as well. The carb solenoid must be working since the engine runs for at least a brief period right?
