The spring is the spring that was on the engine before, and the cross shaft moves freely.
The cam gear and crank gear mesh up fine. The gov gear was meshing fine when I had the pan off and was turning things by hand. The gov gears do move axially about a quarter inch between the block and the retaining pin. It is possible it may be binding or not meshing properly when it is spinning at engine speed, although non of this was changed from before as fa as I know...
