1650 Transmission Issue
Hi Everyone,
My 1650 has been dripping oil from the front of the transmission for the last couple months. Sometimes I use it and have no leaks for a few days, other times It starts dripping shortly after I finish using it. It is either coming from between the pump and the trans, or from the brake rod o-ring area.
Something I noticed last night after I drove it 50' and parked it in the garage was that there was a little bit of pressure when I removed the fill plug to check the transmission oil level. I blew snow with it all winter and it never hesitated, but it sometimes leaked afterwards. I went plowing with it today and it ran fine. I let it sit between sessions and decided to open the plug to check the level again and it sprayed fluid out. It was not running any of the times that I checked it. I drained all of the old fluid out before winter, cleaned the whole inside with diesel fuel as a rinser, and filled it with Traveller brand (Tractor Supply) hydraulic/transmission fluid that says it meets the Hytran and Hytran Plus spec, new gaskets and axle seals, and a 1410 napa filter.
Is there supposed to be pressure built up in the differential part of the transmission when it is not running? I figured that the vent on top would not allow it to pressurize. Maybe the vent is clogged? I just don't want to wreck something. This makes sense why I would get random leaks. I just need to get it to vent.
Thanks,
Jonathan
