That sounds like you have a float or needle valve sealing issue. That problem would show symptoms worse at idle speed rather than full throttle.
Nevertheless, I had an M 18 that used to quit when I'd mow along a bank with the right side of the tractor on the downhill side. Seemed to run well at other times. Finally found a hole in the carburetor float or I just arbitrarily dropped the float level and the problem went away. Dont remember exactly how I fixed it but float related.
