I went down this same path awhile back. By the time I priced out the wire alone, I was already around $25. This still didn't include any terminal fittings or the casing/mesh that ties all the wires into a harness. Now you may already have wire and parts on hand for the job, and that would help.
One of the advantages of the aftermarket offerings is that they are made with the correct OEM color coding. So, installation and future troubleshooting will be much easier.
