I've watched a lot of tractors with duals on the upper side of the tractor(left). As it is the out side of the first tire barely hits the ground unless it's real soft. The only benefit the second tire would do is more weight maybe more stable. Most of the time the diff gets caught up on the tip of the furrow. I find it's better to have taller tires.
There are a lot of different theory's of this. I've plowed with a model 70 with 8.5's with no problems except the diff getting caught up. Traction was never really a problem.
